What is Octave? • Octave is a high-level language, intended primarily for numerical calculations. This language provides capabilities for numerical resolution of linear and nonlinear problems, and for performing other numerical tests. It also provides extensive graphical capabilities for data visualization and manipulation. • Octave is normally used through its interactive command line interface, but it can also be used to write noninteractive programs. In a sense, the art of programming is getting the right variables at the right time A variable name must comply with following rules It may consist only of the letters a-z, the digits 0-9 and underscore ( _ ).
